When i first started to dive in wordpress several years ago, page builders dint exist. Even the one that existed, were not so good. At that time if you wanted to do some customisation in your wordpress site or blog, you need to be a HTML/CSS expert. Later some plugins came that made the designing and customisation easier and also shortcodes were introduced. Shortcodes were and are really easy to use. And now today, we have loads of free and paid drag and drop page builder plugins available. With all of these page builder available, its really difficult to select which one is the best. Obviously you cant try them all. You might be using some drag and drop plugin and thinking this one is the best until you find the other one.

If you are not sure which page builder plugin you should use, don’t worry! We have created a list of top 7 page builder plugins. We will be discussing about all 7 plugins in detail and then rank them accordingly. But first let me answer this question.

Why Use a Drag and Drop Page Builder?

If you are a blogger or you have used wordpress, you might be knowing how difficult it can be to customize the theme according to your choice. Most of the themes give a lot of options for customization but its not necessary that you will get the exact same layout design that you want. Other than free themes their are also many premium themes with lots of options. But finding a theme that can fulfil all your needs is truly a difficult task. If you ask me, i would prefer to create it by myself rather than spending days to find the perfect theme.

By using Page builders, you can easily add and customize any component you want. These components can be anything like adding multiple columns, parallax backgrounds, full width images, content slider, etc. Users can use these components as blocks to build their own layouts within their WordPress themes.

NOTE: With drag and drop page builder you are not creating a new theme, but you are customizing a simple theme like TwentySixteen to a new design.

Now as you know what Drag and Drop page builders can do, lets discuss about the top page builders that are available in wordpress and then we will rank them accordingly.

1. Elementor

Elementor will always be in the top of my list for the best drag and drop page builder plugins available in wordpress. I used to work on Visual Composer by WPBakery which is also a great tool but after using Elementor, i cant think of trying any else. Elementor is a live page builder i.e. you get to see the live page while you are editing it. Elementor is really fast and easy to use page builder which you will start noticing as soon as you start working on it.

It is available for free in the wordpress repository which is reallly great. It has a pro package which gives you more customization option to create a perfect responsive website. Even i am using Elementor for my blog.

These are some of the features that are avaiable for free in Elementor.

  • And counting…

I haven’t actually tried DIVI yet so i will be telling you what people at WPBeginner think about DIVI

Divi is a drag and drop theme and WordPress page builder. It is an extremely easy to use and fast WordPress theme with 20+ layouts/templates for different kind of websites.

You can create and save your own Divi layouts. You can also export a layout from one Divi installation into another. Divi also comes with tons of elements that you can drag and drop anywhere in your layout.

Pricing for DIVI starts for $69 per year.

3. Visual Composer By WP Bakery

Visual Composer was the first drag and drop plugin that i used back in the day. It was the first drag and drop page builder available for wordpress and that too at a low price. It is available for just $34 – one time cost. They have added some features over the years, though, which is nice. In addition to a good number of modules, they have some design customizations that will apply across all modules on all pages in the plugin settings.

You can also see the mobile view of the website by selecting the mobile option rather testing the design again and again on your cellphone. Visual Composer is shortcode driven. So if you have disabled the plugin, all the design will be lost and you would only be able to see the shortcodes.

Also sometimes VC can be very buggy. Well it was for me. But if you’re already set up on VC and not experiencing issues on your site, VC is still a decent choice for a page builder when it comes to features & flexibility.

4. Page Builder By Site Origin

Page Builder is a free page builder plugin available in wordpress repository. It has all the essential basic modules plus some templates and a clean user interface. Well if we compare Page builder from other 6 plugins that we are discussing, page builder doesn’t have that many customization options. But if you are looking for really simple site with not much of the complex layout and a neat design, page builder can be a greater tool. Moreover its free.

5. Beaver Builder

Beaver Builder is a premium drag and drop page builder and is very easy to use. It is by far the best page builder plugin that i have found.

It is extremely fast and comes with a tour for beginners which introduces the beginners about every feature and how to use it, which is cool.

Beaver has option for everything – adding a parallax, image carousel, slider, content blocks, buttons etc. The user interface is very easy and any beginner can easily understand it.

Beaver Builder is a live page builder i.e. you get to see the live page while you are editing it. You can drag and drop elements to the page and you can also click on any element on the page and then edit its property.

It has some free templates that beginners can you to learn. pricing for Beaver builder starts from $99 for unlimited sites.

6. Conductor Plugin By Conductor

Conductor plugin did not work very well for me. I have been using page builders from a very long time but then also it was a bit difficult to work with conductor. Its unique in a way that it uses the wordpress customizer to design the page. But the user interface need to be improved and also their are not many modules available and it costs $49-$399/year. I wont suggest to put money on this plugin. Maybe they improve it in future.

7. Themify Builder

Lat but not thee least, Themify  page builder. Well if you are using any Themify wordpress theme then you are already having Themeify builder in your site. And if you are not, then you can easily get it from wordpress repository and install in your theme. Themify builder is a live drag and drop builder and so you can see the changes while you are doing it. Themify Builder allows you to edit your pages from the admin area as well as from your live site. It comes with some ready to use modules that you can add in your page or posts.

But, even after having this much feature i wont recommend you to use Themify Page builder. The problem is, if you have customized your theme using themify and after sometime you decide to deactivate themify plugin, your content would be lost. Dealing with shortcode or transferring content is other thing, but total loss of content DAMN! that wont work.

Final Ranking:

Now its time to rank these top 7 builders. It was really difficult to decide who gets the first position. And its a clash!

  1. Beaver builder and Elementor Page Builder
  2. DIVI
  3. Visual Composer
  4. Page Builder by Site Origin
  5. Themify
  6. Conductor

So after going through all these top 7 page builder plugins one thing is very clear, Beaver builder and Elementor Page Builder are the best. If you don’t mind spending little money to get the best in market along with guaranteed support from developers, then go for any of these two, and you won’t regret it.
